2G trial: The wait for bail continues for Balwa & company

The 2G trial court on Wednesday reserved its judgement on the bail plea of Shahid Balwa, Asif Balwa and Rajeev Agarwal.

Shahid Balwa will be pronounced on May 24, the order on Asif Balwa and Rajeev Agarwal will be pronounced on May 21.

Meanwhile, Subramanian Swamy, petitioner in 2G case and president of Janata Party told the CBI trial court that since, CBI does not want him as a co-public prosecutor in the 2G case, “a separate trial should be started” where he could be the prosecutor.

Swamy accused that the CBI is trying to protect the Congress leaders involved in the scam. He said, “They are attempting to incrimate Raja solely and they claim that he determined the pricing of the spectrum all by himself. But as per the records, P Chidambaram and Raja, the then finance minister and the telecom minister, were both involved in this and the decision was mutually taken.”

He says records show that PM Manmohan Singh admitted to Chidambaram’s involvement in taking the decision in the Parliament. “The Prime Minister, in February during his address in the Parliament said both Raja and Chidambaram had made their decision on the matter,” Swami stated. However, he says, “Raja was held guilty on account of the faulty low pricing of spectrum, though he is not solely responsible for this. Chidambaram, Karunanidhi and many more were involved in this.”
